11/16 GBM + Organizer Training
On Wednesday, November 16, at 6pm, we will host our final general body meeting of the semester in the Stamp Grand Ballroom Lounge. We’ll be chatting about the election results and collectively scheming for the spring legislative session.
Got more time? Join us earlier at 4pm at the same spot, the Grand Ballroom Lounge, for a Labor Organizer Training. We will be hosting Lydia Majure, an organizer with United Autoworkers who helped organize postdocs at UC Berkeley in 2016. Lydia’s interactive workshop will layout an FSE-specific roadmap for building collective power and winning issue campaigns around our working conditions.
Wes Moore Wins
Democrat Wes Moore is now Maryland’s first Black governor! With Hogan gone, we all stand a better chance of achieving collective bargaining rights. In total, we’ve got over 95% win rate so far for Senate and over 90% win rate for the House of Delegates for candidates we’ve endorsed. Looking for the deets?
Check out our Endorsement Tracker. And if you have a minute, you can remind the transition team about higher-ed collective bargaining for Maryland 😜.
Cuffing Szn Resources
While condoms can’t prevent “you up?” texts from your ex, they CAN prevent STIs and STDs. UHC is offering bulk safer sex supplies for student groups or individuals via this form. (Let us know if an FSE condom haul would be beneficial?) Or on #ThxBirthControl Day 2022, chase down the Condom Cart in Stamp on Nov. 16th from 2-4 pm. Visit health.umd.edu/ for more information about FREE Emergency Contraception, Birth Control services, and STI/STD testing at UHC and visit myUHC.umd.edu to schedule an appointment.
Bonus: Plan B is always available at the UMD pharmacy free by student ID swipe (and theoretically, they would fit in USPS packages one might ship to these states.)
